Under the agreement, both parties will develop a “roadmap” to let PSU students and attendees pass on-site and pre-degree practice at MERLION.  Besides, the company and the university staff are planning to run R&D,  develop case tasks for practical exercises, form and implement joint programmes for refresher training intended for university staff and for IT company’s personnel.

Together with MERLION, the Government of Perm Krai is planning to form a regional order for training subject matter specialists, including approval of a list of competences for graduates of economic sciences, preparation of recommendations for the university's academic council relating to the content of curricula for training university students and attendees.  In its turn, the company is ready to employ those graduates who have successfully passed pre-degree practice. Moreover, there are plans to establish a special-purpose scholarship fund for the most prominent students specializing in the fields relevant to MERLION.

As of June 2018, 16,000 specialists are employed in the IT industry in Perm Krai. Depending on the results of implementation of task-oriented measures and priority projects under the Concept of Digital Economy Development in Perm Krai accepted in May 2018, the amount of manpower employed in the industry will be increased by 6,000 until 2024.

According to the Ministry of Education of Perm Krai, 377 students specializing in IT graduated from higher education institutions of Perm Krai in 2017. The region executives believe that the amount of graduates specializing in IT should be increased. Signing an agreement with MERLION is just the first step in this direction.

? “Now we are negotiating with a wide variety of companies; we will set the task in order to make every large company operating in the region support the professorship and create

their own scholarship programmes; every company should invest though small sums, but intentionally. If we join efforts, we will be able to make a considerable contribution to higher education in the region. Without further development of higher education, it will be difficult for Perm Krai to become a center of digital economy”, pointed out Governor of Perm Krai Maksim Reshetnikov.
