The production of Panasonic IP-cameras has started in Russia

According to CNews, Panasonic Russia, the daughter company of the Japanese developer of electronic technologies and solutions, together with MERLION, the Russian distributor, announced the beginning of production of Panasonic smart self-learning IP-cameras at the facilities of IRU Company belonging to MERLION.

The company declared that the decision for co-production was made upon Panasonic's initiative in response to the wishes of the Russian customers. The iRU production process was certified for compliance with global technological standards of Panasonic Corporation.

The partners do not announce the amount of investment in the project but emphasize that the production line will be able to provide timely output for specialized projects of almost any scale. MERLION does not report data on the actual volume of products currently produced.

"IP-cameras, security, video imaging and analysis are the segments that are becoming one of the main drivers of the entire global market of security systems," Dmitry Vinogradov, MERLION Director General, said. "The fact that we are moving in this direction along with one of the world leaders shows the importance of the Russian market for Panasonic Corporation."

It is worth noting that Russia has become the first country outside Asia where the Japanese Corporation started local production of its security cameras.

The iRU brand has been known since autumn 2000 when Bureaucrat and KYE Systems adopted a joint agreement on the development and sales of personal computers under the Genius iRU brand name in Russia. In 2003, the rights to use the Genius iRu brand and produce PCs were transferred to NCA Group which later completely shifted to the production of laptops under the iRU brand. In the second half of 2005, the laptop market underwent major changes both in terms of redistribution of forces between manufacturers and in terms of reorientation of consumer demand. The profitability of Russian laptop production began to decline and, as a result, the production of iRU laptops was stopped. In March 2006, PCs under the iRU brand returned to the Russian market: their assembly was restarted at MERLION facilities.

Model range

At the initial stage, it is planned to produce three popular models of security cameras, the most demanded in the Russian market: WV-S2131LRF (indoor, dome), WV-X6531NRF (outdoor, PTZ) and WV-S1132RF (boxed). As reported by MERLION, the above-mentioned models provide up to 30% of sales of all cameras of the Japanese company in Russia. The company believes that in the future the range may be expanded.

According to the manufacturer, smart self-learning devices allow for quick, without men's involvement, provision of high-quality images, even in poor visibility. 144 dB dynamic range (the ability to transmit the brightness of real objects in a photo or video) provides a balanced exposure under rapidly changing light and strong illumination in the frame. MERLION states that i-Pro sensors guarantee activation of the color night vision mode. The H.265 codec and Smart Coding technology provide video bitrate reduction without losing its quality and, as a result, reduce the load on the channel by up to 75% simplifying the storage and transmission of video data.

The devices are equipped with the iA (intelligent Auto) and ROI (Region of interest, self-learning coding technology) technologies. As reported by the manufacturer, the iA technology allows the device to automatically analyze the scene and adjust basic parameters of the camera in the real-time mode minimizing the risk of image distortion – "blur" of moving objects, for example. Due to the ROI system, the camera automatically detects areas with moving people or vehicles and provides high-quality images in these areas, while static areas of the frame can be compressed with loss of quality in order to reduce the system's requirements for channel performance or storage capacity.

Sphere of application

According to MERLION, today Panasonic IP-cameras are widely used in industry, energy, transport and public sectors.

The above-mentioned camera models, for example, were used at the 2018 FIFA World Cup facilities, and the previous models were installed at infrastructure and sports facilities in Sochi prior to the beginning of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Cooperation between MERLION and Panasonic

The MERLION Company was founded in 1992 in Russia. As of 2015, it has more than 7 thousand employees. In addition to distribution activities MERLION develops a number of third-party projects. The company includes: the federal chain of electronics stores POSITRONICA, the e-tailer CITILINK, the technical center MERLION Engineering, the chain of service centers IT Clinics, the iRU computer equipment trade mark (has three production sites in Moscow and the Moscow region) and the Bureaucrat trade mark which is engaged in production of stationery, business accessories and office furniture.

In November 2018 CNews wrote about the agreement between Panasonic and MERLION under which the latter became the exclusive distributor of classic mobile phones in Russia. Thus, for the first time in more than 10 years, it became possible in our country to buy a phone of a Japanese vendor focused primarily on the older generation.

The model range of Panasonic mobile phones for the Russian market is represented only by KX-TU150 distributed through Citilink stores at a price from 3 thousand rubles.
