The annual Dell EMC Forum 2016 was held in Expocentre in Moscow in November. This year, MERLION acted as a silver sponsor of the event and presented its competences as a leading VAD distributor on a stand. The company’s representatives – the key managers of the department for procurement of commercial and Enterprise equipment of Dell EMC – held a number of negotiations and personal meetings with existing and potential partners. MERLION is the oldest Dell’s direct partner in Russia, which signed a distribution contract in 2003. Over the years of partnership, MERLION was on numerous occasions recognized to be the best partner of the year. The latest forum became an important venue for discussion on further strengthening and expansion of collaboration between the distributor, the vendor and the partner companies.
Dell EMC Forum 2016 – Transformationbegins
One of Russia’s major IT events brought together more than 1 500 representatives of big Russian companies, IT directors and experts. The latest event was focused on digital transformation of business. That was the subject of the talk presented by Frank Hauck, President, Customers & Markets at Dell EMC’s Infrastructure Solutions Group, Dell EMC.
The pace of technological development is indeed amazing. By 2031, terabit Internet will be a common thing, up to 50% motor vehicles in the US will become driverless, while genome sequencing will take just 94 seconds and cost less than a dollar. In 15 years, the world will have more than 200 billion internet-connected devices.
For such fantastic results to be achieved, the business community and IT systems need an extraordinarily powerful impetus. And this process has been named as digital transformation, i.e., a radical change of all the business processes owing to introduction of technologies: from social media to the Internet of Things. And if a company rejects the path of transformation, it will just disappear.
To successfully overcome digital transformations and to achieve the objectives set, companies need a comprehensive approach comprising three key areas: transformation of personnel, that of information security policy and IT architecture.

These are business needs that will spearhead the drive for IT infrastructure development. Organizations will leave information recording systems in the past and switch to interaction systems and comprehension systems. Conventional applications will be definitively replaced with cloud ones. Companies will invest more and more and develop technologies for acquisition of massive data flows and their real time analysis, as an increasing number of devices are connected to the internet and generate information on interaction with it.
Transition to hybrid cloud is the best option for all the needs
Digital transformation makes necessary transition from a conventional IT architecture to a hybrid cloud. The first step towards hybrid clouds will lie through modernization of a data center, its key principles to include: horizontal scaling, software-based environment, flash storage drives, cloud support. This is a hybrid cloud that will make applications more failsafe and horizontally scalable. The hybrid cloud technologies will provide up to approximately 25% of economy, compared to traditional infrastructure, and up to 40% of saved funds may be allocated to new initiatives. But what is the most important is that, with switching to a hybrid cloud, achievement of the goals of transition to digital business becomes 3 times more probable. This means that the IT infrastructure of the new type is constituted by dynamic pools of computational resources, network resources and storage resources.
The way to a corporate hybrid cloud includes modernization of infrastructure and architecture, automation of provision and administration of services, transforming IT operations for creating a hybrid cloud. Automation of operation of a data center will enable to scale operations and reduce costs, while retaining the highest reliability level. Transformation of IT operations implies a new approach to process management: which information will be kept in a private cloud, which in a public one, which services will be developed within the company, and which will be used on a subscription basis. All the changes will, among others, require new skills from employees.
