MERLION CUP’2011 in Omsk: strike the gold when you’re close to the lane!

Fourth qualification stage of Russian National Bowling Tournament was supported by Acer.

MERLION CUP 2011 in Omsk Another stage of MERLION CUP’2011, National Bowling Tournament for MERLION’s regional partners, took place on October 7 in Omsk. The event was supported by Acer, noe of the world’s leading vendors of computer equipment.

MERLION CUP 2011 in Omsk The official part comprised presentations by the coordinating companies’ representatives. Olga Kravtsova, business development manager at Acer (Urals, Siberian, Far Eastern Federal Districts), spoke about “Acer’s mobile solutions”. Anton Dolotov, business development manager at MERLION, outlined the company’s long-term development program in the presentation “New horizons with MERLION”.

After the official part, the participants wore corporate t-shirts and divided into teams. Eight lanes and the respective number of teams named quite inventively. Some chose it (4C), others unambiguously expressed their wishes in it (Will Go to Moscow) or just went creative (Escaped the Rhythm).

When the creative phase was over, the players rushed into real action.

MERLION CUP 2011 in Omsk The pace of the game was set by the leaders of the event, the team named The Diamond Hand. Their performance was inspired by the Boss, a character in the eponymous movie, who taught to “strike the iron when you’re close to the swag”. Only the players were striking a metal of a higher standard – gold. In the end, the Diamond Hand had won virtually every award: best team of the night (1263 points) and the highest individual results in both male and female categories. The latter were won by the strongest players in the Omsk stage: Sergei Sidorenko (177 points) and Natalya Shakhova (117 points). The second place in the podium was occupied by the Escaped from Rhythm (1187 points). The bronze winners were 4C (1058 points). Will Go to Moscow had every chance to enter the top three, but they were short 25 points for that. Too bad that wish will not be fulfilled this season. The “colored” teams, the Red Pin and the Orange Hogs, were not lucky enough to pass the thousand-point mark. Still, the Red Pin was only 5 points (and the Orange Hogs – 40 points) short to achieve this. The most stunted performance was shown by the Smashing Punch. The team’s name didn’t really help as the players hit the smallest number of pins, - and the last place in the rating with a 869-point score.

At the end of the event, the top three teams were awarded prizes and the winning team received the precious ticket to the Moscow finals.
