Based on the My Office Private Cloud office suite, the Russian broad-based distributor Merlion has launched a SaaS solution for the public sector, which is expected to help customers reduce the cost of relocating staff to remote locations. Potential customers are offered a free trial period.

Cloud-based "My Office" for the public sector

Merlion has launched a new solution based on the domestic office suite "My Office" in the cloud on the Merlioncloud platform.

The product is positioned as a solution for federal and regional government authorities that require transfer to remote work without significant investments in infrastructure modernization. The provision of access to the software is carried out according to the SaaS model (Software as a Service).

As the General Manager of Merlioncloud Dmitry Spiridonov told CNews, access to the geo-redundant solution is provided based on two data centers - the Greenbush DC data center in Zelenograd and the Merlion data center located in Krasnogorsk. Service users are provided with full control over their own data in the cloud using My Office technologies.

When asked by CNews about why the new product is aimed specifically at the public sector, Spiridonov replied that “in connection with the pandemic and the direction of remote work, the demand for such a product as a reliable software solution for government agencies has become obvious, and Merlion decided to launch it using the technology of "My Office"”.

Solution composition

The cloud solution based on the My Office Private Cloud suite allows you to create and edit text and spreadsheet documents, work with email, calendar, and contacts. All cloud applications can be accessed from anywhere and at any time, regardless of device (including mobile) and platform.

The solution includes technical support services provided by the respective MerliOnCloud division. More than 20 employees are involved in the provision of technical support services. The company assures that the solution can be scaled to any number of workplaces. Scaling allows you to pay exactly as much as used. On the one hand, the customer does not pay for unnecessary licenses and resources, but on the other hand, it can always quickly increase the stand capacity.

Free testing and the final cost of the service

Merlion offers a free trial of the new solution. Customers are promised three-month trial access to a cloud-based office solution from 150 workplaces.

The final cost of the service at the end of the trial period will be determined based on the results of the customers' competitive procedures.

The average market price for one job in Merlion is estimated at 600-1000 rubles depending on several factors. At the same time, the savings in the IT budget in the long term compared with the deployment of your own infrastructure can reach 80%.

Who uses "My Office" software in Russia

My Office is a collaborative document editing and cloud storage software platform that includes a word processor, email client, presentation application, and proprietary spreadsheet software. Since 2013, the platform has been developed by New Cloud Technologies. In the SaaS direction, НОТ has been cooperating with Merlion since 2016, and within the framework of the Merlioncloud project - since its launch, that is, in 2018.

Applications from the My Office package are adapted for Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile platforms Android, iOS, Tizen, and Aurora. As of August 24, 2020, 10 products of the New Cloud Technologies company are included in the Unified Register of Russian Software of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications.

And in mid-August 2020, CNews wrote that Gazprom and its subsidiary engineering and regional structures tested My Office for the first time. It was reported that a little more than 400 licenses were purchased - both standard and professional versions of the product.

In December 2019, the Russian Pension Fund purchased 13.6 thousand licenses of the Russian software "My Office Standard" for its employees in the amount of 69.2 million rubles. In the large-scale centralized purchase of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of office software for the federal state bodies accountable to the Government, which on the second attempt ended in mid-December 2019, most of the software offered at the tenders included  "My Office" packages.

The transition of Rosrezerv to "My Office Standard", which CNews reported in August 2019, is also worth mentioning. Digital Design then acted as an integrator.

We also note the project of transferring all branches of the Russian Post to "My Office", which the company announced in April 2019. The transition is planned to be carried out within three years. The post will need a total of 30,000 licensed copies of the My Office package, which Binom will supply.

In February 2018, CNews wrote about implementing the "My Office Standard" office suite in the central administrative office of the TASS news agency.

In September 2018, the Rosgvardia became interested in the possibility of switching to My Office, which announced a tender for the purchase of 37 thousand licenses of domestic office software.

In autumn 2016, the Moscow government showed interest in the office suite; it initiated municipal employees' transfer to email from My Office package.
