IT Research: Analysis of Russian IT Market

The situation in the Russian market of projectors in the first half of 2017.

The peculiarity of each crisis is the almost universal and total decrease in sales. In this case, the sale of goods which are not related to vital products, such as, for example, projectors, turns out to be very fluid. And, unfortunately, in a negative sense. As a result, the dynamics of sales has a pronounced wave-like character with significant amplitudes.

The highest point of development of the projector market was not even in 2007 (as for most branches of the segment of computers and peripherals), but in 2012, at the time of large-scale state tenders in the education area. However, next year, even with the support of tenders, the market showed a decline due to the growing problems in the economy. And this decline continued for several years, with a fairly high rate. And only this year there was a trend towards elimination of the downward movement, but in its amplitude it was not even a slight resemblance of the way out of the past crisis, when in 2010 the market spiked. Now, despite the fact that in some of Russian IT-industries the upward movement started in 2016, the projector market was an outsider, showing extremely inexpressive results: minus 11 % in both natural and monetary terms.

However, the results of this year are already much better. For the first half of 2017, according to the analytical company ITResearch in Russia, about 36.4 thousand projectors worth almost 40 million dollars were sold. This allowed more than enough to cover losses of the previous year. Total market for the year increased by 17 % in physical terms and by 26 % in monetary terms.

According to ITResearch, in Q3 2017 approx. 363,000 devices were sold in Russian UPS market for $92.4 mln. In comparison to Q2 2017, the market grew approximately by 30 % in units and by 34 % in money terms. With extremely positive annual growth rates: in comparison to Q3 2016, the market grew approximately by 25 % in units and by 12.4 % in money terms. This is noticeably better than in the second quarter, although slightly worse than in the first quarter.

ITResearch: the third quarter turned out to be favorable for scanners

ITResearch summed up the results of the third quarter on the Russian market of scanners. For the scanners, and for the printing devices market, the quarter turned out to be very successful, the sales had positive dynamics. In the segment of tablet devices, in comparison with the same period last year, sales in pieces increased by almost 15 % to 20.3 thousand units. (which is marked for the first time in the last several years of continuous decline), and document scanners in the third quarter were sold one and a half times more than during the previous year – 8.4 thousand units. Such a significant change in dynamics can be attributed to the accumulated deferred demand, and to improving the situation with solvency.

In the third quarter the Russian market of printing devices started growing

According to the data of analytical company ITResearch, in the period from July to September, almost 600 000 printers and desktop MFPs were sold in total, which is 5.7 % more than for the third quarter of 2016. With that, the money volume of the market continued its double-digit growth and by the end of the quarter amounted to $139 mln, which is 29 % more than a year earlier. Marked for the first half of 2017, the continued quantitative decline in the printing devices market in the third quarter was replaced by slight increase in sales, which is observed for the first time during the last four quarters.

ITResearch: in the 3rd quarter the monitors market grew by 10 %

According to preliminary data from the analytical company ITResearch, 700,000 monitors were sold in Russia during the third quarter of 2017. On an annualized basis, the market grew by about 10.4 %. This is not much, but it shows that the market continues to grow even without significant tenders.

Growth in the notebook market has stopped

According to the analytical company ITResearch, sales of notebooks in September amounted to 355 thousand devices. This is slightly more than in August. And 1 % more compared to September of the last year. The growth, which the market showed in the summer months, has clearly started declining.

The tender component of the document scanner market has decreased

The analytical company ITResearch announced the results of the first half of 2017 on the Russian market of document scanners. The trends here are approximately the same as in the adjacent segment of flatbed scanners, the decrease in physical terms and increase in money terms. In total, 11.8 thousand devices were sold during the first half of the year, which is 11.3 % less than in the same period in 2016.

LED modular screens is a very promising market

Analytical company ITResearch announced the results of the first half of 2017 on the Russian market of LED modular screens. In total for the first half of the year 2017, the volume of this segment is estimated at 632 installed screens with a total area of 11.7 thousand square meters. The average screen area was 40 square meters. The market capacity is estimated at $15.7 mln.
