In February, the Russian laptop market still felt excellent
Sales of laptops in February remained at a high level. As in January, the Russian market grew by 24% compared to February 2021. In total, shipments of laptops reached 390 thousand devices according to the analytical company ITResearch. Direct retail worked well – large consignments of goods, including affordable models, were finally delivered, which created some reserve for crisis in March.
In February, the market of projectors grew due to ultra-cheap devices
According to the analytical company ITResearch, in February 2022, about 7.4 thousand projectors were sold in Russia for $6.8 million. Compared to January, the market grew by about 25%. This is a considerable figure, but analysts were not very encouraged. The fact is that the growth was mainly due to a surge in retail sales of ultra-cheap Cactus and Hiper projectors, which together accounted for about 40% of the entire market. In particular, the total sales of the 12 leading brands (without Cactus and Hiper) amounted to 3,848 devices in February, which is significantly less than the January figures (4,440).
We count TCO. Popular monochrome MFPs for a small office
Relatively inexpensive monochrome multifunctional devices with a capacity of up to 30 pages/min, aimed mainly at users in small offices or working groups, as well as for home applications, are the most popular models in the segment of laser MFPs. According to ITResearch, they accounted for more than half of all sales in this market in 2021. As many users switched to working remotely, these models have become more popular in home offices. The review assesses the cost-effectiveness of six monochrome MFPs of A4 format with a capacity of up to 30 pages/min, five laser models with a printing/copying speed of 26 to 30 pages/min.
February was still a good month in the monitor market
According to the analytical company ITResearch, about 285 thousand monitors were sold in Russia in February 2022 for the amount of 56 million dollars. Compared to January, the market grew by about 23%. In annual terms, the market also showed growth for the first time in many months, increasing by about 3%.
How much and why did laptop prices jump in March?
According to the largest retail chains, the price for household appliances as a whole grew by 50%. But, according to the data below, the price of laptops (the hottest goods of the computer segment) grew by as much as 80% on average. ITResearch analyzed offers for the "Laptops" category in some online stores and marketplaces.
The Russian PC market grew mainly due to laptops
According to the analytical company ITResearch, in the 4th quarter of 2021, the total supply of PCs (desktops and laptops) in Russia amounted to 2.47 million pcs. This is 8% more than in Q4 2020. The main growth is still achieved mainly due to the high supply of laptops. At the end of 2021, the market in Russia amounted to 7.94 million devices with a dynamics of +2% compared to 2020. Desktop PCs showed a decrease following the traditionally high 4th quarter of the year. A total of 1.11 million desktops were delivered, which is about 3% worse than a year earlier. Laptops performed well in the 4th quarter as demand for them remained strong. In total, 1.35 million mobile PCs were sold in the quarter, with an annual dynamics of almost 19% compared to the level of the last quarter of 2020.
In 2021, the Russian UPS market exceeded analysts' forecasts
According to the analytical company ITResearch, in 2021, 1.324 million UPSs were sold in the Russian Federation in the amount of USD 365.7 mln. The results of 2020 were exceeded by 2.3% in units and by 11% in money. The growth in money was largely due to the installation of 40 Huawei 1.2 MVA lithium battery modular devices in a very large data center, which was completed in the summer of 2021. Without it, the growth rate would have reached only a few per cent.
Russia's photo paper market decreased in 2021
The analytical company ITResearch summed up the results of sales of photo paper in Russia for inkjet printers in packs. Rolls, large format (A2+), self-adhesive and magnetic paper, as well as photo paper for laser printers were not taken into account. In total, about 2.11 million packs of photo paper were sold in 2021, which is 14% less than a year earlier. And two years ago, in 2019, the market was even bigger. Apparently, users continue to refuse to capture memory pictures on solid media and use smartphones instead.
In 2021, the Russian LFD market dropped
The analytical company ITResearch presented data on sales in the Russian LFD* market for 2021. In total, 66.5 thousand panels were sold in that year for $250 million. Thus, the market decreased by 12.8% in units and by 7.8% in money during the year. Global manufacturing and logistics issues affected the entire LFD industry, resulting in higher equipment costs and low-cost models not being delivered, in favour of more marginally expensive devices. As a result, the weighted average cost of one solution rose by 5.7% for the year, amounting to USD 3,757.
* According to the ITResearch classification, LFDs are professional LCD displays with a diagonal of 32-98 inches. At the same time, interactive and seamless solutions are included, computer monitors are not included, and modular led screens and video cubes are not included, either.
