MERLION has acquired a Sony electronic books distributorship.
In December this year, Sony brought Sony Reader™ e-books to the Russian market and announced which Russian companies have acquired e-books distributorship. MERLION is among them.
MERLION has acquired the status of “Authorized Sony Reader™ electronic books distributor” and begins to supply the devices to the Russian market. The distribution agreement is perpetual and entered into force on December 1, 2011.
“Acquiring this distributorship is very significant for MERLION, because the Russian market has been awaiting the official delivery of Sony books for a very long time. In fact, today Sony is the only class A brand entered the Russian market of electronic books, - says Anton Lukyanov, Procurement Director of MERLION. - Sony e-books have great prospects in Russia: according to some estimates, book sales grow by 80% from year to year. Unfortunately, it is no secret that the market offers many unofficial Sony books, but only official Sony e-books support such a sought-after format as FB2*. And only official books have a Sony manufacturer's warranty (by serial number). I am confident that our partners and their customers will appreciate it and make the right choice”.
The first model officially represented in Russia is PRS-T1 - the lightest (with the weight of only 168 grams) model in the world with a 6” diagonal size, Wi-Fi and touch screen supporting the multi-touch technology.
The first batch of Sony Reader™ e-books and accessories, including illuminated covers, have already been received at the MERLION warehouse.

* Reading FB2 format files will be possible with installation of additional free software for e-book models which will go on sale in December 2011 and January 2012. The necessary software will be preinstalled in e-book models which will go on sale in February 2012.
