The Russian IT Market Research from ITResearch
The large display market ended the year with little growth.
According to the analytics company ITResearch, 17.64 thousand information panels (LFD, professional displays with a diagonal screen size of 32-98 inches, excluding computer monitors) were sold in Russia during the 4th quarter of 2018. The total sales amounted to 61.6 million dollars. On a year-on-year basis, market dynamics was quite modest, and with the 4th quarter being the most important quarter of the year it had the maximum impact on the annual growth rate. In physical terms, the market grew by 11% as compared to the 4th quarter of 2017. In monetary terms, there was practically no growth due to the decrease in a weighted average product cost.
Laptop sales increased mainly due to direct retail sales.
The year 2019 in the Russian laptop market, according to the analytics company ITResearch, began with 8% annual growth in January. This is better than in the 4th quarter of 2018. In just a month, a little more than 220 thousand devices were supplied. However, an extremely significant part of these volumes is the direct retail supplies. The level of sales of retailers was very positive — about the level of last November, and in general not much worse than in hot December. Distribution channel, on the contrary, lost ground to a large extent.
In January 2019, the monitor market went down
As reported by the analytics company ITResearch, in January 2018, 177 thousand devices valued at about $ 29.4 million were sold on the Russian market for monitors. The weighted average cost was about $ 166 for one monitor. On a year-on-year basis, the market dropped by 6%. Such a decline has been observed for the first time in recent years when the market was slowly recovering from a massive crash of previous years. Analysts believe that this decline in January is largely determined by over-intensive sales in December.
Projector market went down considerably in January
According to ITResearch, in January 2019, 6.8 thousand devices valued at about $ 9.9 million were sold on the Russian market for projectors. The weighted average cost for the top ten brands was $ 1,335. The decline in January as compared to December was inevitable due to seasonal factors. However, if in 2018 the sales fell by 57%, this year it has already fallen by 65%. Obviously, everything was happening much more acute than last year. Оn a year-on-year basis, the dynamics was also quite different.
ITResearch>: In 2018, the sales on the UPS market were below expectations
According to preliminary data from the analytics company ITResearch, 1.3 million UPSs valued at $ 320 million were sold on the Russian market in the year 2018. On a year-on-year basis, the market grew by 0.7% in physical terms but it fell by a little more than 0.7% in monetary terms. This is worse than analysts forecast for 2018 (in monetary terms the UPS market was expected to grow by 5-10%, in physical terms – by about 15%), but the common pattern is correct.
Successful quarter for the document scanner market
As opposed to the shrinking flatbed scanner market, sales in the document scanner segment continued to grow, and the 4th quarter of 2018 has been the most successful over the past few years. In the last three months of the year, according to ITResearch, 13.4 thousand devices were sold on the Russian market, which was twice as many as in each of the three previous quarters and 37% more than in the 4th quarter of 2017. Such a sharp change in dynamics is explained not only by the seasonal increase in demand at the end of the year but also by several large corporate supplies, which, as often happens in this market, have a strong impact on its overall performance.
In 2019, the Russian market for printing devices will remain at current levels
The analytics company ITResearch has presented the Russian printing device market forecast for 2019. According to preliminary estimates of ITResearch, in quantitative terms, the market volume as a whole for 2018 will be slightly more than 2.2 million units, which is only 1.5-2% more than in 2017. Given rather modest prospects for overall economic growth and an increase in consumer demand in 2019, ITResearch considers that the total market volume will most likely remain at the level of 2.20-2.25 million units.
